Buckle & Hide, The Sterling Silver Buckle Company, is a business making and designing
buckles and belts in the traditional manner.
New visitors to the site might assume that the business was just another
manufacturer with a fairly extensive product line. Far from it, since
actually it is an inherited family business and many of the hand tools
used to create personal orders were in use in the 1800s.
The Sterling Silver buckles, all handmade, are kept in small quantities
in the workshop in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter, close to
the Assay Office where they have to be sent for independent testing and
hallmarking, by law, before they can be sold.
The harness style buckles are British classics which have stood the test
of time and remain popular for belts whilst fashion trends have been in
constant change.
Hallmarked Sterling Silver is guaranteed to be non-allergenic with no nickle
content. Every year new buckles are introduced either from the archives
or from a new concept. This year amongst the new line up is the ‘Over
& Under’ which allows the belt length to be adjusted by up to
10”, as the buckle is never permanently fixed to the strap.The leather
used is the best British full bridle stirrup leather produced by the oak
bark long tan process and drum dyed.
The company attends major horse trials as an exhibitor providing a showcase
that gives excellent feed- back to retail accounts, especially when new
buckles are introduced.

& Hide is the last bespoke belt maker/buckle maker in Europe combining
both of the trades in one service. As such, when your order is received
it is entirely handmade by one individual to your specifications.
Each customer is assured of individual attention, since all of their requirements
are bespoke, utilising the materials that were common place and common practice
before the advent of mass production and built-in obsolescence.
